About the Founder
Omar Farooq Khan is the visionary founder of The Ruh Foundation. Born in Burlington, Ontario, Canada and raised in Stoney Creek, Hamilton, Ontario, Omar later returned to Burlington, where he attended Chisholm Academy in Oakville, Ontario, from 2018 to June 2023. There, he completed his Ontario Secondary School Diploma, graduating with a strong focus on academic excellence and community engagement.
Following high school, Omar enrolled at Toronto Metropolitan University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Administration and Governance. He complemented his degree with double minors in Criminology (B.A. Hons) and Law & Business (B.Com. Hons), reflecting his deep interest in justice, policy, and ethical leadership.
In July 2025, Omar transferred to Bond University in Queensland, Australia, to pursue his Bachelor of Laws to graduate with honours. His ambition is to become a criminal defence and civil litigation lawyer, and to use his legal education to advocate for marginalized communities and inspire meaningful social change through both law and non-profit work.
The Ruh Foundation is a key part of that mission born out of a desire to provide survivors of sexual violence with access to legal and psychological support, grounded in empathy, justice, and dignity.
"Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter."
— Prophet Muhammad (ï·º), Sahih Muslim
My Story
There was a time when many believed I wouldn’t make it to university. Living with ADHD and other learning differences, I was often underestimated, told, directly or indirectly, that my ambitions were unrealistic. But I knew deep down that my story wasn’t going to be defined by doubt, labels, or limitations. It would be defined by resilience, faith, and the fire to prove them wrong.
I went on to graduate from Chisholm Academy in Oakville, Ontario in 2023 with my Ontario Secondary School Diploma. And despite the odds, I was accepted into top-tier universities across Ontario, including the University of Toronto, McMaster, York, and Toronto Metropolitan University. I chose to study at TMU, where I pursued Public Administration and Governance (Honours B.A.) with double minors in Criminology and Law & Business, laying the groundwork for my future in law and public service.
But my journey didn’t stop there. In July 2025, I transferred to Bond University in Queensland, Australia, one of the most prestigious law schools in the Southern Hemisphere, where I was honoured with advanced standing for my academic excellence. I was also accepted into several top law schools in the U.K., affirming that the same student once counted out had become a future legal advocate with global opportunity.
Throughout my journey, one thing remained constant: a powerful sense of justice and a deep commitment to serving others. Whether supporting my family during hard times, uplifting my friends, or building a platform to serve survivors through The Ruh Foundation, I’ve always believed in doing what is right even when it’s hard.
This foundation was born from that same belief. That justice, healing, and dignity are rights that are for everyone, not privileges.
"They plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners."
- Surah Al-Anfal (8:30)
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: you can achieve anything you put your mind to, especially when your heart is guided by purpose, your effort is consistent, and your trust is in God.
