Our Mission
At The Ruh Foundation, our mission is to provide survivors of sexual assault and gender-based violence with compassionate, culturally competent, and trauma-informed support—legally, psychologically, and medically. While our roots lie in the Muslim community, this foundation is not just for Muslims. We are building a future where all survivors, regardless of their faith, background, gender, or status, feel seen, heard, and empowered to take back control of their lives.

Founded by Omar Farooq Khan at a young age, this foundation is a testament to the belief that meaningful change doesn’t require age, titles, or degrees; it requires character, conviction, and courage. We aim to inspire a new generation of community leaders, legal professionals, and healers who embody humility over ego, purpose over prestige, and service over status.

We are actively developing a team of individuals who lead with empathy and integrity—those who are not afraid to challenge the status quo and become the very change they want to inspire in others.

In addition to legal and mental health support, The Ruh Foundation will offer integrated medical services, including:

-
Domestic violence and trauma-informed assessments
-
General forensic assessments
-
Access to rape kits, administered by qualified professionals to support survivors in preserving evidence
-

These services are designed not only to aid police investigations but to give survivors the space to make informed decisions. Whether they choose to pursue criminal charges, civil litigation, or simply seek support without legal action, we will walk with them—without pressure, without judgment, and with full respect for their autonomy.
We believe justice is not one-size-fits-all. That’s why our mission isn’t just to provide services it’s to restore trust, dignity, and choice in a system that too often takes those things away.

The Ruh Foundation is more than a non-profit. It is a movement for justice, healing, and the rewriting of what’s possible

Founders' Commitment
As the founder of The Ruh Foundation, my commitment is simple: To serve survivors with integrity, to lead with purpose, and to build a foundation rooted in justice, healing, and compassion.
“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice…”(Surah An-Nisa, 4:58)
This foundation was born not from a textbook, but from what I’ve witnessed in real life. I’ve seen how trauma affects families, how silence is weaponized in our communities, and how shame often wins when justice is too far to reach. I grew up watching my father, a lawyer for over 30 years, stand up for the voiceless, and my sister advocate with strength and grace. From mock trials to real-life courtrooms, I’ve been learning what it means to fight for people long before I ever step into practice. I may be young, but my dedication runs deep. The Ruh Foundation is not a side project. It is my life's purpose, and InshaAllah, it will become a safe, trusted space for survivors, Muslim or not, to find legal clarity, psychological care, and most importantly, hope. To those who believe in this mission: whether you support with your time, your knowledge, or your duas, know that you’re part of something bigger than any one person. You're helping build something sacred.
Meet the Team
The Ruh Foundation is currently led by its founder, Omar Farooq Khan, known by most simply as Omar or Farooq, a driven law student, future criminal defence and civil litigation lawyer, and passionate advocate for justice. Born into a family deeply rooted in the legal field, Farooq was raised around courtroom conversations, advocacy, and a strong sense of duty. His father, a seasoned lawyer with over 35 years of practice, and his older sister, a brilliant legal mind, have both inspired his path. Yet while he holds deep respect for their legacies, Farooq’s mission is not to follow in their exact footsteps; it is to forge his own, build something lasting, and inspire his generation and the next to lead with empathy, courage, and vision.

He founded The Ruh Foundation in his teens, not to seek recognition, but to prove that impact doesn’t depend on age, degrees, or titles; it depends on who you are at your core. With lived experience, courtroom exposure across Ontario and even the Supreme Court of Canada, and a clear-eyed understanding of systemic barriers, Farooq has laid the foundation for a long-term initiative that provides legal support, trauma-informed care, and dignity to survivors of sexual assault, particularly within marginalized communities.
Joining him in these early stages is his cousin, Zahra Toor, the Foundation’s Future Director of Finance. Zahra, currently preparing to begin her university studies in business, brings a sharp, strategic mindset and an innate sense of leadership. She has already begun contributing to the financial planning and vision-building of the foundation, and as she continues her academic and professional development, she is expected to take on an executive role overseeing the organization’s budgeting, fundraising, and financial transparency. Her presence reflects the intergenerational trust and long-term vision embedded in this work.

Together, Farooq and Zahra are not just launching a non-profit; they are building a movement. One rooted in purpose, community healing, and legal and psychological justice. While the team is still small, the vision is bold. The Ruh Foundation is actively laying its groundwork to officially launch by 2028–2029, and welcomes collaboration from passionate individuals ready to make meaningful change.
